G I Therapies is developing an innovative non-invasive medical device for the treatment of chronic constipation (CC) in adults and children.
Some 80 million people world wide suffer from CC which results in a significant impact on their quality of life. The technology was developed at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne. The product is based on a well established technology that is applied in a novel manner for this indication. After 1-3 months of use (1 hour/day) a majority of patients show a clinically significant improvement in bowel function and quality of life measures. For many patients, the treatment has the prospect of being able to eliminate or significantly reduce their long term dependence on laxatives or drugs, well after the treatment has stopped.
